Course Description

This is an overview of recent research relevant to the theory and practice of psychotherapy. The one hour lecture summarizes notable research conducted within the past 3 years. The selected research draws from peer-reviewed studies in the psychological, sociological, nueroaffective, and cognitive sciences. The goal of this course is for participants to gain validation for existing effective clinical practices, learn new insights on treatment modalities and theories, stay up to date on existing research, be intellectual stimulated, and gain more tools for effectively engaging in clinical work.

This review specifically covers recent research on:

-Emotions and working clinically with emotion

-Research on breakthrough moments during therapy sessions

-Evidence based practices for improving clinical effectiveness

 

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Learn 1 major core concept from each of 10 different recent peer-reviewed studies.
  2. Define emotion from a nueroaffective perspective.
  3. Learn 3 qualities of how clients experience breakthrough moments during therapy sessions.
  4. Identify 1 practice for improving therapeutic results

 

Hours: Course meets qualifications for 1 hour of continuing education credit for LMFT’s, LCSW’s, LPCC’s, and LEP’s as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

 

Instructor: Rudy Ruderman LMFT has a master’s degree in counseling psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy and depth psychology. He has been running groups for over 9 years in settings from inpatient psychiatric hospitals to community mental health centers and now runs two ongoing interpersonal process groups in Santa Barbara California. His passion for groups stays alive because of the synchronicity, dynamism, and powerful connection that occur when a group is functioning well.

Cancellations made 6 days or more before the start of the training will be given a full refund minus a $25 processing fee. Cancellations made 5 to 1 days before the start of the training will be given a 50% refund. Cancellation made within 24 hours of the training will not be refunded.

Certificates: Course Completion certificates will be awarded at the end of the course in exchange for full attendance, signing in and out each day, and a completed evaluation form.
