Ian Nicholson AMFT

Clinician

Ian is a compassionate clinician with a strong background in child and family mental health. Before becoming a therapist, Ian worked as a classroom teacher, where he developed a deep understanding of the challenges children and families face at different stages of development. Parents often share that Ian’s warmth and authentic care create a positive and collaborative environment for the whole family. He also has a passion for and experience with helping men through their mental health journey. His approach to therapy emphasizes building meaningful connections and fostering trust, allowing clients to feel genuinely seen and supported.
 
Ian provides therapy to children, adolescents, families, and adults, navigating a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges. His areas of clinical interest include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, ADHD, family dynamics, healthy attachment, and men’s mental health issues. 
 
Outside of his clinical work, Ian enjoys exploring nature, birding, surfing, riding his e-bike, and spending time at home with his family. Ian earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Santa Barbara.
