Cara Brown AMFT
Clinician
Cara is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Post graduation, she completed additional training in Brainspotting and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. As a clinician, her style is honest, warm, empathetic, and humorous, using supportive and expressive techniques to recognize unconscious patterns, explore emotional depths, and uncover meaning in the unknown. The ultimate goal is to cultivate a sense of self that feels embodied, integrated, and more deeply connected to both personal truth and relational others.
Cara has worked with clients to address a wide range of concerns, including trauma, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, gender expression, and neurodivergence. Before becoming a therapist, Cara was a fashion and interior designer for over a decade. As a result, she can provide a unique perspective and insight into the experience of clients who are professional creatives.
Cara’s primary therapeutic modalities are psychodynamic psychotherapy and Brainspotting. Psychodynamic psychotherapy utilizes images, metaphors, and dreams to understand how our thoughts, feelings, and relationships are shaped. Brainspotting is a neurobiological technique that engages the autonomic nervous system to stimulate healing and target the physiological and emotional responses to trauma. These approaches work well together, improving self-regulation by brainspotting and cultivating psychological awareness through psychotherapy.
